Village Day 2020
Cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation
We’re really sorry to announce that we have made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 Wivelsfield Village Day for the safety of all those involved and in light of the current restrictions on events and public gatherings.
A message from the Wivelsfield Village Day Team
In these unprecedented times, a strong sense of community and togetherness is perhaps even more important than normal and it has been wonderful to see the Wivelsfield community coming together as it always does to help those who need it.
As the current Coronavirus situation has been developing, we’ve been closely following news and updates regarding social-distancing measures, restrictions on gatherings and the approaches taken by other events scheduled to take place in July. After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Wivelsfield Village Day 2020 for the safety of everyone involved, from the organising team and volunteers to our wonderful suppliers, traders, clubs and organisations and everyone who joins in and takes part in the event.
Whilst our hope is that by July we may have seen a return to some sense of normality, an event of this scale does not happen overnight. There are many hours of work needed beforehand, as well as significant financial outlay, which we currently cannot commit to with any degree of certainty on how things may look by July. On top of that, the health and wellbeing of everyone involved will always come before anything else. Even if gatherings are allowed again by July, we would have a moral judgement to make as to whether or not to go ahead with a large number of vulnerable and elderly people in attendance. By cancelling the 2020 event at this stage, we can continue to work on plans to roll forward into 2021 with a clear conscience.
We know that this will come as a disappointment to many people, but we’re sure this is the right decision at the current time. We’ve got some exciting plans in the pipeline for the next Village Day that we can’t wait to share with you just as soon as we can, and we’ve heard rumours of a big Village party for when this madness is all over – which we’re excited to help with in whatever way we can. Watch this space!
As always, the Wivelsfield community continues to be a wonderful thing, full of people who care about their friends and neighbours and who want to help those around them. The Wivelsfield Coronavirus Buddies support group is doing a wonderful job, and we’re looking forward to all coming out the other side of this with a stronger sense of community and togetherness than ever before.
For now, stay safe, stay at home, and keep washing your hands!
